Required Qualifications:

  • PhD, in clinical pharmacology, epidemiology, human genetics, molecular cellular biology, microbiology, virology, bioinformatics, epidemiology or related field. Experience in laboratory based microbiome research in a multidisciplinary setting. Experience in statistics and/or bioinformatics preferred but not required.

Summary of Position:
Postdoctoral associates in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology conduct research on microbiome and impact on immunosuppressive pharmacology. This position is expected to provide further development of career skills and opportunities to learn innovative research techniques related to pharmacomicrobiomics and pharmacogenomics. This person will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team with responsibilities at the University of MN and at Hennepin Health Research Institute.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities and Approximate Breakdown:

60% Processing and analyzing biosamples from Microbiome and Immunosuppression (MISSION) study
Work with human specimens, such as blood, saliva, urine, feces, etc. Processing of specimens for DNA and RNA isolation. Willing coordinate, process and test clinical samples from participants enrolled in the MISSION study at M-Health and Hennepin Healthcare. Learn aspects related to the conduct of clinical studies, bioinformatics and genomic data analysis.

10% Developing new non-microbiome studies and assist with grant writing
Development of innovative non-microbiome studies that are being conducted in the lab. These studies may include CRISPR/Cas9 cell engineering, drug metabolism studies, next-generation sequencing technologies such as single nucleus RNAseq, and whole genome/whole exome/targeted sequencing projects.

10% Record-keeping
Maintain detailed laboratory records and storage of specimens.

10% Communication of Research Findings
Preparing data for manuscripts and drafting manuscripts; preparing presentations for laboratory groups, departmental, and national meetings

5% Mentor other laboratory personnel and interface with multi-disciplinary MISSION study team
Supervise students and communicate with multi-disciplinary MISSION study team regarding relevant data and share results

5% Basic laboratory maintenance, planning, organization to comply with University of Minnesota and Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute safety guidelines.
