Position Overview

The ACHS Academic Dean serves as the Chief Academic Officer and Chief Accreditation Officer for the institution and works in collaboration with the Board of Directors, President, Chief Operating Officer, Center for Excellence in Teaching, Technology and Assessment (CETTA) Team, Program Chairs and other stakeholders across the institution to support ACHS’s culture of commitment to student retention and success, academic integrity, curriculum development and implementation, and all aspects of higher education compliance. This position reports to the President. This position is required to work on-campus at the main Portland Campus.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Cultivate and foster collaborative working relationships across the institution with a focus on achieving deliverables that align with the institution’s mission, vision, strategic initiatives, and Certified B-Corp® and Benefit Corporation status

  • Provide leadership and project management for identifying and advancing new and innovative program development and launch

  • Coordinate and maintain compliance with academic accreditation and state approval requirements, including the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization of the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC), and the Hawaii Board of Education; ensure all academic activities are in compliance with academic, accreditation, state and federal education standards.

  • Ensure a focus on student success by collaborating across the institution on students from enrollment to graduation including developing persistence, retention, graduation and satisfaction initiatives and other outcomes assessment measures

  • Ensure that curricula is aligned with stated program outcomes and that regular program reviews incorporate scheduled input from all stakeholders including program advisory councils, industry groups, employers, faculty, students and alumni

  • Stay up-to-date with current education and industry trends; align curriculum with these trends and current workforce needs

  • Serve as subject matter expert in applicable areas and actively participates in curriculum development including authorship original lecture content, and ensuring effective curriculum maps illustrating the integration of program, course and module learning outcomes across the curriculum and in assessments.

  • Work with Program Chairs to manage the day to day affairs of their departments and to recruit faculty and oversee faculty development and evaluation including faculty orientation, mentoring and annual evaluations

  • Supervise communication of academic updates to teams across the institution to provide awareness and training of academic initiatives, program updates, and results of program reviews and analysis of student feedback

  • Chair or co-chair the Academic Standards Committee to manage and respond to student petitions, conduct issues, acceptance decisions, and applicant or student grievances

  • Oversee articulation existing and develops new articulation agreements

  • Serve as Department Chair for a department consistent with education and experience pursuant to Oregon Office of Degree Authorization as needed

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An earned doctorate and higher education administration experience

  • Experience with healthcare sciences and accredited, Title IV federal financial aid-funded programs preferred

  • The ability to effectively carry out short-, mid- and long-range project planning to assure the institution’s continued innovation and achievement of its mission and strategic planning goals

  • A commitment to sustainability for people, the planet and fiscal responsibility

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; position requires prolonged standing or sitting. Requires frequent bending, stooping or stretching.
