Dakota State University (DSU) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in Big Data Analytics and/or Bioinformatics. The position is funded by NSF through an EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement (RII) Program Track 1 project grant for developing the South Dakota Biofilm and Engineering Center (SDBSEC). SDBSEC will invest in the creation of interdisciplinary, inter-institutional teams to build research competitiveness and capacity in bioscience and two-dimensional (2D) materials. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to use data mining and machine learning techniques to analyze the large volume of data that will be generated by SBDSEC’s research initiatives. The researcher is also expected to seek grant opportunities in the areas of Big Data analytics, bioinformatics, and medical applications, publish high quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals, as well as explore collaboration possibilities at DSU and beyond.
The successful candidate for the position will have a PhD in Information Systems, Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics or related fields with a focus on data analytics and/or machine learning. The candidate should have solid Big Data analytical skills with strong programming background in languages, including but not limited to Python, R and Java. The candidate should demonstrate good communication skills and an interest in working collaboratively across disciplines. Experience in writing and securing grants is beneficial. We offer a competitive salary and an initial appointment of 12 or 24 months, starting Fall 2019. Extension of the postdoctoral position for up to 5 years is possible. Once employed, the postdoc researcher will participate in a number of workshops and receive proper career and scientific mentoring on grantsmanship, pedagogy, time management, research group management, science communications, and commercialization.
