Description

The Catalyst Scientist (FCC Additives) is responsible for developing new Catalyst/Additives for Refinery FCC applications, engaging with manufacturing for new product introduction and scale up, and monitoring commercial trials for performance evaluation and further refinement.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Design and Develop Catalysts/Additives for FCC (Fluid Catalytic Cracking) and similar applications

  • Produce catalysts on bench scale as well as in pilot facilities with desired properties and performance

  • Lead scale-up of catalysts and additives developed in the laboratory according the JM NPI methodology

  • Work closely with manufacturing for successful plant trials of new products

  • Compile comprehensive reports on additive and catalyst development

  • Follow commercial trials for fine-tuning and further product improvement

  • Develop in-house expertise in catalysis, applications, and characterization

  • Keep abreast of literature and patents related to catalyst formulation/materials science and characterization

  • Contribute to developing testing procedure and deactivation methodologies, and use testing data to connect structure and performance relationships in catalysts

  • Understand operation/manufacturing and its constraints for catalyst development

  • Act as a resource to others in areas of materials synthesis and characterization methods and techniques

  • Establish collaborative relationships across JM generally to further support and strengthen ability to deliver innovative solutions

  • Promotes safety at work place

  • Drive EHS improvements and Good Housekeeping, leading by example, and complies with all JM standards

  • Provides creative and innovative ideas and research designs to meet business needs

  • Delivers concise and upward reporting as required by group manager

  • Practice excellent supervision skills (as required) by setting strong objectives that direct reports are held accountable for, and mentor team to grow their capabilities and talents

  • Performs other duties as requested by management

 

Are you the ideal candidate?

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemistry is strongly preferred

  • 0-5 years of applied experience in an R&D environment, with commercial relevance preferred

  • Experience with FCC Catalysts and/or Additives is a plus, but not essentially required

  • General Catalysis, Zeolites, laboratory management best practices, effectively communicate complex messages to audiences of various backgrounds, and possess excellent interpersonal skills

  • High degree of technical problem-solving skills

  • Hands-on approach

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of process technologies
