Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics or in a calculus-based Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field received within the last three years.

  • Ability to builds teaming relationships with technical and other company organizations.

  • Executes work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.

  • Experience with MCNP modeling code and image processing tools such as IDL and Matlab.

  • Experience with x-ray optics to include imaging, raytracing, crystal reflectivity measurements, and experiment design.

  • Experience with x-ray spectrometers to include design, fielding, and data analysis

  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

 

Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”

Responsibilities

THIS IS A LIMITED-TERM REGULAR FULL-TIME POSITION. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE CAN BE EMPLOYED UP TO TWO YEARS, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF ONE ADDITIONAL YEAR, BASED ON THE ORGANINZATIONS' NEEDS.

 

  • Devises imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions requiring evaluation of standards and processes. Solutions may be unique.

  • Coordinates execution of assigned projects.

  • Develops processes, procedures, work instructions

  • Authors formal publications.

  • Produces intellectual property.

  • Work with a scientific mentor to complete a project of technical relevance to MSTS mission. This will include working toward a solution as an independent contributor and in collaborative teams.

  • Will be eligible for full-time MSTS employee benefits, with the exception of the Employee Education Training Assistance Program and severance pay when the employment relationship ends. Relocation will be provided on a limited basis.
