Cahill’s research program at GW actively explores the self-assembly of actinide bearing hybrid materials. The project requires post-doctoral level participation and oversight to develop synthesis techniques, establish assembly criteria and delineate structure-property relationships.

This position is primarily a temporary/training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. This position may also help the Principal Investigator to lead and direct the work of lower level research staff and analyze and interpret data . This role performs work under the supervision of experienced researchers. This position will report to Dr. Christopher Cahill.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts active laboratory research on an independent basis in collaboration with the Principal Investigator. Designs and evaluates experiments; develops new ideas that promote current research; and, plans and develops research methods and techniques within Cahill’s research program.

  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of Cahill. In conjunction therewith, presents findings at internal meetings and external conferences. Attends, contributes to and as necessary leads internal and external meetings.

  • Operates specialized scientific equipment. Teaches techniques to others, trains and oversees students and ensures that responsibilities identified within internal policies are met by all research members.

  • Oversees the maintenance of lab and equipment therein. As needed, orders materials and supplies.

  • Performs other work related duties (administrative, completing forms, etc) as assigned. Not providing specifics here does not preclude Cahill from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a PhD in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum requirements: A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Geochemistry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in aqueous and solid state-syntheses, small-molecule X-ray crystallography and luminescence spectroscopy. A strong record of publications and achievements in this arena is preferred.
The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of graduate and undergraduate students and will be expected to mentor students at all levels.

Typical Hiring Range $51,238 - $64,150 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
