Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Division of Research, Economic Development and Engagement has newly created research clusters to provide expanded opportunities for colleges and units to meet newly issued research expenditure targets. These research clusters consist of Precision Medicine, Health & Chronic Disease, Health Behavior, Energy & Natural Resources, Coastal & Marine Sciences, Big Data & Analytics and STEAM Education. Biomedical Sciences & Engineering will be formed Fall 2018.

The Big Data & Analytics cluster supports all research clusters with their Economic Development programs.

Job Duties

The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of big data, analytics and data visualization. Responsibilities include management of all aspects of data harvesting, data assimilation and storage, development of data visualization for applied research and community based application. Duties include: hypothesis development, literature review, collection of data, visualization and analytics using SAS and additional programs, and supervising of undergraduate research students and graduate research students, overseeing data collection procedures, supervising data security protocols, review of data for quality control, supervision of data entry/data analysis, analysis of research hypothesis using descriptive and multivariate statistics, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications.

Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training.

Approximately 95% of the postdoctoral scholar’s time will be devoted to planning and carrying out data collection and analysis, as well as compiling results into publications.

Approximately 5% of the postdoctoral scholar’s time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activity of undergraduate and graduate research students.
