Job Description:

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will pay a key role in a project to develop and apply new methods for phylogenetic comparative biology. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Assist the laboratory Principal Investigator (PI) in new and on-going research projects;

Develop, apply and disseminate new methods for phylogenetic analysis, which may involve new theoretical research, computer programming and software support;

Assist with field data collection and experiments;

Assist with training and monitoring undergraduate and graduate students;

Assist with writing of scientific publications and grants;

Participate in other departmental activities such as seminars and journal clubs;

May assist in various training programs, including a series of mini-courses to be held in Latin America or a young method developer's workshop to be run at the UMass Boston Nantucket Field Station;

Perform other duties as assigned.      



PhD in Evolutionary Biology, Computational Biology, Biomathematics or a closely related field is required. Extensive training and experience in one or more of the following areas is required:  phylogeny method development or application in software; theoretical evolutionary quantitative genetics; and/or evolutionary computational biology.  Broad training in evolutionary biology preferred.  Prior teaching or mentoring experience preferred.    

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other administrative software;

Ability to follow oral and written instructions;

Ability to work well with others;

Strong oral and written communication skills;

Strong attention to detail;

Strong record-keeping skills;

Strong commitment to customer service.

Hiring salary range: $48,000-$53,000.
